My name is Karen Hill and I have been the Director of Ogwadeni:deo since September of 2021. I was born and raised on Six Nations of the Grand River Reservation, and still reside here. I obtained a Bachelors Degree in Sociology from McMaster University, as well as a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Toronto.
I have worked in child welfare for 30+ years, both in my community, but also with the urban Indigenous population in Toronto, the North West Territories, and Akwesasne. The scope of my experience, has contributed to the evolution of a broader understanding of the many factors which contribute to caregivers experiencing difficulty in caring for their children.
I am committed to developing a service that ensures the safety and well being of our children, while recognizing the need for them to maintain connection to extended family and where possible to caregivers.
There have been many changes at Ogwadeni:deo and more to come. We have streamlined a lot of our internal systems to achieve more efficient and responsive service and support to families we are working to support.
Karen Hill, Director
